Microsoft SAM Programme PDF Print E-mail

MSAMInitiate your SAM activity and achieve Microsoft recognition of your software compliance status

Microsoft has recently revised its SAM Programme designed to support and recognise all customers who undertake software asset management work proactively with an authorised Microsoft SAM partner such as Teksys.

The Microsoft SAM Programme enables you to analyse your current Microsoft licensing position and educate your IT asset management team – with the added benefit of certification from Microsoft for your SAM activity.

Teksys, one of a handful of Microsoft’s authorised SAM partners, has a service to aid you in the rapid completion of this programme and achievement of the subsequent certification from Microsoft.

The average desktop or notebook PC has over £1000 of licensed software installed on its hard disk – it is essential to manage these licenses correctly and this programme gives you a simple way to develop your SAM activity whilst gaining immediate Microsoft recognition.

Programme Benefits

This programme gives you the assurance of 100% compliance with your Microsoft licensing agreement and the ability to maximise the investment you’ve made in Microsoft software. The full list of benefits is shown in bullet form in the left hand column - in addition, Teksys augments the Microsoft SAM Programme by adding additional features to speed your company through the process and achieve certification:

  • Streamlined registration process
  • Managed Microsoft review process
  • SAM Programme Certification from Microsoft
  • Free ISEB SAM Essentials course (worth £1000)

The Process
Teksys will register your organisation with the programme and, following your approval, licensing position development starts immediately.

Teksys investigates any licensing agreements held at Microsoft and analyses all purchases made.  By utilising the same review processes as used on all Microsoft-initiated reviews, the information is collated into an accurate profile including all entitlements under technology guarantees, upgrades and software maintenance.

Microsoft-qualified and ITIL-accredited SAM consultants visit your site to identify and validate any Microsoft software procured outside a licensing agreement.

We will also work with you to understand how you currently deploy and utilise your Microsoft software by analysing discovery tool data and installation processes.

The ALP
Once we have a complete picture of the licensing entitlement and utilisation, we will draw comparisons between these two data sets.  This comparison is referred to as the Microsoft Actual License Position (ALP) and is accompanied by a detailed report of what software is owned, what is installed and identifies areas where there is the possibility of over or under licensing.

In addition the report contains detailed recommendations of how to rectify any under and over-licensing issues.

Completion
Once you have agreed the ALP report, and rectified any under-licensing issues, the report is processed by Microsoft and a certificate identifying that your organisation has completed the programme will be issued.  This certificate gives you the assurance that Microsoft is satisfied that you are working to meet your licensing obligations for the next 12 months.  We recommend that you use this programme to benchmark your licensing compliance and undertake an annual review to maintain certification.

Additionally a member of your SAM team will be eligible to attend a free ISEB SAM Essentials Course worth £1000.

Pricing
The costs for this service are determined by the size and complexity of your organisation.

For simplicity there are three tiers and the fixed price for your organisation will be agreed prior to engagement:

Tier A - Standard:
Example: A medium-sized business with simple structure and centralised procurement function.

Tier B - Advanced:
Example: A medium to large business with some branch offices and multiple procurement points.

Tier C – Complex:
Example: A large multi-site organisation with a
diversified business model and fully
de-centralised procurement structure.
